Problem: We have a list on one of our extranet sites where the committee members need to have all of the normal ‘Contribute’ permissions except for delete.
Solution: We created a custom permissions level called ‘Participate’ with the same permissions as Contribute minus the delete permission.
Creating Custom Permission Levels
- Go to: Site Actions->Site Settings->People and Groups
- Go to: Site Permissions
- If you are basing your new permission level on an existing permission level, click on that permission level at this point in order to see what permissions it has.
- Select: Settings->Permission Levels
- Select: Add a Permission Level
- Give it a name and description then choose individual permissions. Click Create when done.
- Your permission level now shows up in the list.
Changing Permission Level for a Group
- Go to: Site Actions->Site Settings->People and Groups
- Go to: <group name> on left navigation.
- Select: Settings->Group Settings
- Under “Name and About Me Description” edit the About Me text to reflect the new permission level.
- Under “Give Group Permission to this Site” check the new permission level and uncheck the old permission level. Click OK when done.
